Description[edit]
The Reaper is a lightly-armored unit that does strong damage against light units and is capable of traveling up and down cliffs. They are a low tier unit, requiring only a Tech Lab connected to a Barracks. They are commonly used as a hit and run harassment unit due to their high mobility, strength against light units such as Probes or Drones and powerful attack against buildings. Their ability to travel up and down cliffs is very powerful against melee units and for escaping and entering bases. They can be used effectively to snipe crucial buildings such as Pylons or Spawning Pools to control an opponent's build in the early game. Their Nitro Boost upgrade increases their harassment possibilities and makes them even more effective at backstabbing and sniping approaching units. Despite their strength against Light units and speed, they have yet to be commonly used en masse or in large battles due to their cost and because the Marauder is generally the force behind Bio pushes.
Additionally Reapers have a secondary attack, D-8 Charges, which do a base damage of 30 to buildings and structures specifically. This makes them an even greater threat in the early game, as the Terran has the option of harassing the mineral line, or their opponent's buildings instead.

Competitive Usage[edit]
General[edit]
Other than the early harass, one increasingly popular tactic is the delayed Reaper rush. Once your opponent has taken their natural expansion and moved most of their units there to protect it, they usually leave their main base fairly vulnerable. A group of 6-8 Reapers can thus quickly jump in, snipe out several workers, and get out before the opponent can rush his units back to defend the main. A corollary to that is to position the bulk of your army near the natural choke, then send the Reapers as a decoy. Call of duty number. The opponent will move several units back to the main to defend it, at which point you can overwhelm his defenses at the natural and move in a pincer-fashion from both sides. Vs. Protoss[edit]
Due to their high mobility, Reapers can be deadly against a slow teching Protoss opponent. Using their speed and quick attack, Reapers can ruin Probe mineral lines, and even take down the enemy's Nexus if they are not prepared. Because the Reaper is so highly mobile, with decent micro control the Terran player should have no problem against a Zealot force, punishing any Protoss who are slow to tech and get their counter, the Stalker.
Reapers with the +1 weapons upgrade are also deadly vs probes because they precisely 2-shot them. Accordingly, it can be deadly to send one to an enemy work line during a main battle as the reaper may go unnoticed and kill many probes.
Vs. Terran[edit]
Reapers can be rushed to in TvT, but because of the relative power of Siege Tanks and the ease at which small groups of Reapers fall to Marines, they are not commonly seen. If a player should decide to get Reapers, they can be used to destroy add-ons with relative ease, in addition to the usual economic harassment.
Vs. Zerg[edit]
Reapers are a common alternative to hellion harass against Zerg because the Nitro Pack allows terran to kite and snipe even speed upgraded Zerglings. However a quick Roach opening is usually able to prevent the majority of the damage. The viability of a Reaper opening against Zerg depends on the Terran's ability to micro Reapers effectively, while keeping up SCV production and expanding at the same time.
The Nitro Pack upgrade greatly improves the viability of early Reaper harassment, as with the upgrade they have comparable speed with Speedlings. This coupled with their cliffing ability allows Reapers to avoid being surrounded with good control. Care must be taken to avoid the Queen and Roaches, however, as they both can attack at range. This problem is overcome with large numbers of Reapers, as they will win with sheer attrition.
The 5-Rax Reaper opening popularized by MorroW takes advantage of the Reaper's effectiveness against Zerg early game. By starting with heavy Reaper pressure, the opponent is forced into a quick Roach Warren off one base, and the Terran player can easily transition to Marauders to answer this 'force', possibly causing an endgame or allowing for an extremely safe expansion while keeping the Zerg player on one base.
Early mass-Reaper play has become less common since Patch 1.1.2, in which three major changes happened: the Nitro Pack upgrade was changed to require a factory, increase of Roach's range to 4, and Barracks requiring Supply Depots beforehand.
